Compassion for the Fallen

Father God, help us to not gloat over the misfortunes of other people. We don't want to profit over someone else's loss but it seems to be the way of the world right now. When someone's house is foreclosed on someone else is able to get a good deal on a short sale. We take advantage of any opportunity that comes along, without caring where it came from. We should not feel superior because we profited from someone else's loss. When those around us are fallen we are not to kick our brother or sister while they are down. We have a fine line to work with in this situation. How do we respond to others misfortunes and still care for ourselves and family? We show sympathy, compassion and respect. We understand that but for the grace of God, I too can fall. We can take advantage of the situation with dignity and respect. We can help where we can and guide and protect what we can.

When we are looking at our video of life and find the moments when we have fallen and lost something valuable, we wonder how it happened? We know others are looking on with judgemental stares. How could this happen. We have failed. We lost our home. We lost our job. We have to live in a poor neighborhood. Sometimes through no fault of our own and sometimes it is clearly our fault. How do we move on? The strength of God tells me that he will never walk out on us. Never leave us. Never let disaster and destruction be the last word in our lives. We may not see the future, the children will do better. We have to show compassion and love for each other. Love is all we have right now. I love  you. Be blessed today and be a blessing to someone.

Obadiah 12-14
New International Version (NIV)
12 You should not gloat over your brother
in the day of his misfortune,
nor rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their destruction,
nor boast so much
in the day of their trouble.
13 You should not march through the gates of my people
in the day of their disaster,
nor gloat over them in their calamity
in the day of their disaster,
nor seize their wealth
in the day of their disaster.
14 You should not wait at the crossroads
to cut down their fugitives,
nor hand over their survivors
in the day of their trouble.
